The 10th annual “Melanie Grace Kickin’ Against Cancer” Benefit Soccer game will be Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Lee’s Summit High School Soccer Complex. The Lady Tigers will don the “purple jersey” and battle Lee’s Summit West in the annual match. The first match kicks off at 4:00 PM with the C-team, followed by the Junior Varsity match versus Lee’s Summit West at 5:30 PM, culminating in the Varsity match versus Lee’s Summit West at 7:00 PM. The event will take place rain or shine.
In 2007, the LSHS women’s soccer team began what would become a wonderful community tradition. The girls started a memorial benefit match commemorating a young girl’s battle to kick cancer and honor her memory by selecting a KC metro area individual facing his/her own cancer battle to be the recipient of monies generated by the event. Lee’s Summit resident Melanie Grace Lindmark was born on August 27, 1998. In November, 2002 she was diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer as a four year old and passed away March 31st, 2005 after a long and courageous battle. She was a sweet, fun-loving free spirited little girl who touched so many lives in her short life, especially those at Lee’s Summit High School. The Melanie Grace Kickin’ Against Cancer benefit is held each spring and relies on the community’s support.
Each year, the LSHS Lady Tiger Soccer team selects a local recipient battling cancer to support and then collects private and business donations. This year the Lady Tigers have selected two recipients: Noah Coram and Osahon Ogbevoen, both soccer players. Osahon was diagnosed on October 6, 2016 with histiocytic sarcoma. Osahon is 12 years old and is in 6th grade at Highland Park Elementary. Noah was diagnosed in December 2016 with Stage 4 Cancer, NUT Midline Carcinoma. He is a senior at Summit Christian Academy.
We hope you, your family, your team, your friends, and/or your business will join us on May 4, 2017 to celebrate Melanie’s life and support Osahon, Noah and their families in the courageous battle against cancer.
The event will include a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and Melanie Grace T-shirt sales.
