15th Annual Trooper Michael Newton Toy Drive Kickoff

November 18, 2017

Captain Scott A. Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the kickoff of the 15th Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive. The toy drive will begin on November 17, 2017, and will run through December 13, 2017.

The Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive is the cooperative effort of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Murphy-Hoffman Company (Kenworth), Summit Homes, and the citizens we serve. The drive is designed to bring smiles to the faces of children who are forced to spend the Christmas holiday season in the hospital. All donations to the toy drive will be delivered to children at KU Medical Center and the Ronald McDonald House. Troopers will deliver the toys personally to the children during the month of December.

Toy donations may be made at all metro Summit Homes models; Troop A, Lee’s Summit, MO; or Troop A, Olathe, KS.  Donations of electronic games, board games, and new children’s books are encouraged. This annual toy drive honors Trooper Michael L. Newton, who died in the line of duty in 2003. His death left a huge void in the lives of his family, friends, and co-workers.

Hoping to add their own impact, the Lee’s Summit West’s Titians football team will be collecting toys for the drive at their annual team banquet on Friday, Dec. 8. The boys and their families will celebrate their players’ season and hard work while gathering for a charitable cause. The public is welcome to turn their toys into a LSW football player up until the date of their banquet.
