Lee’s Summit area sports fans will want to make sure to stop by the 810 WHB Sports Zone during this year’s Lee’s Summit Downtown Days festival set for June 7, 8 and 9. In addition to seeing pro sports athletes and recent college standouts they can visit with eight graduates of Lee’s Summit High Schools who have gone on to excel on the college level. The Sports autograph booth opens up Friday at 2 p.m. with Lee’s Summit West Football standouts Tom Ganadem and Kevin Pendleton. The booth closes at 1 p.m. Sunday with appearances by UCM basketball standouts Katie Kelly, Matt Webb and Mollie Williams. Kelly went to LS West HS Webb at Summit Christian Academy and Williams at LS North HS. Friday night will bring out three more Lee’s Summit area graduates at 7 p.m. when the Kansas City Shock Women’ soccer team visits the booth. Kelsey Gochnauer, Megan Stueve and Bryan Marlborough who serves as the teams strength coach will be on hand until 9 p.m. Dustin Andrews a LS North graduate who went on to be a 2-sport star at Emporia State will be appearing Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. along with the Chick-fil-A Cow.
Friday night will offer Soccer fans plenty to like. In addition to the KC Shock at 7 p.m., the Missouri Comets indoor soccer team will be there till 9 p.m. Earlier at 5 p.m. the new women’s pro soccer team FC-Kansas City will meet festival attendees. Also at 5 p.m. Sporting KC standout Benny Feildhaber will be on hand till 6:30 p.m. Saturday starts off with KC T-bones baseball at 11 a.m. Ex T-bones pitcher and Lee’s Summit native Johnathan Krysa will be there with the Lee’s Summit Monarchs an exhibition team he has put together. At 2 p.m. the focus turns to Pro hockey with the Missouri Mavericks. John Scott-Dickson and David Simoes will both stop by along with Mac the team’s mascot. UMKC will follow at 4 p.m. with Kasey the Kangaroo and Angres Thorpe of the men’s basketball coaching staff. Saturday night finishes up with the KC Renegades indoor football team at 6 p.m. Ex-NFL receiver Todd DeVoe and K-State alum Victor Mann will join them. At 8 p.m. stop by the sports booth to be inspired and hear stories from Senior Olympic diving champions Tom Hairabedian. Tom will show visitors his medals and many awards earned during his career.
