Gentry J. Viers, 30, was arrested on Oct. 4 in Norfolk, Va., on two counts of statutory sodomy of a 4-year-old boy in Greenwood, Mo.

According to Greenwood Police Chief Robert Leslie, the victim told his parents about the alleged incidents involving Viers after Viers had moved out of the residence. A warrant was issued for on Oct. 12 for first degree statutory sodomy. Bond was set at $75,000.

The Greenwood Police Department received information that Viers was attempting to obtain a passport and flee to the country of Columbia. The Greenwood Police Department launched a nationwide search to find Viers before he could leave the country. They found that he was staying in Norfolk hotel and contacted the Norfolk (Va.) Police Department, who took Viers into custody without incident.

Leslie said that police personnel were working around the clock to find Viers and get him in custody.
“I am very happy that Mr. Viers has been arrested due to all of the hard work that the Greenwood Police Department personnel completed in order to make it happen,” said Leslie. “Crimes committed by adults against children are the worst crimes there are because not only are they victimizing one of the most precious things there is in the world, but also stealing away their innocence and childhood which can never be replaced. “    On Oct. 18, Greenwood Police learned that Viers refused to sign a waiver of extradition to Missouri when he appeared before a judge in criminal court in Virginia.

Chief Leslie explained that the  governor will need to sign a warrant to extradite Viers. Information has been forwarded to the Jackson County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney assigned to the case so they can begin the process of obtaining the warrant.
