Advisory: Lee's Summit Police Asking Citizens to make walk-in accident reports
February 21, 2013 8:15 a.m.
During the winter storm, the Lees Summit Police Department will be concentrating their efforts on responding to emergency calls, injury accidents stranded motorists. As a result, we ask for citizens to make alk-in reports for all non-injury accidents.
This can be done anytime at Police Headquarters anytime in the next 48 hours once the storm has passed. Exceptions to the walk-in report policy would be for injury accidents, vehicles that are not moveable and accidents involving persons who appear intoxicated. Police Headquarters is located at 10 NE Tudor Road, LSMO.
The Lee's Summit Police Department offers the following tips for safe driving during the winter storm:
1. Avoid driving during the storm. This allows snow crews to be more efficient in removing snow from the roadways and decreases call load for emergency responders.
2. Drive slowly, anticipate your stops well in advance to avoid collisions.
3. If you do become stranded, follow these guidelines:
A. Stay in your vehicle, if you exit your vehicle, you are at risk for being struck by other motorists.
B. Call 911
C. To conserve fuel, run your vehicle for 10-15 minutes each hour to keep warm until help arrives.
D. Make sure that your exhaust is clear when running your vehicle to avoid carbon monoxide buildup inside your vehicle.
