ALERT: The mandatory water restriction has been amended to allow customers to use sprinkler and irrigation systems every other day.
July 6, 2012 3:00 p.m.
The City of Lee’s Summit has amended the mandatory watering restrictions currently in effect to allow an address-based approach to the use of lawn sprinklers and irrigation systems. This ongoing measure is necessary in order to ensure an adequate balance is maintained between water demands and water storage levels during this period of high temperatures and drought-like conditions.
This approach will allow customers with even-numbered addresses to begin using lawn sprinklers or irrigation systems on even-numbered calendar days, while customers with odd-numbered addresses may use lawn sprinklers and irrigation systems on odd-numbered calendar days.
For example: City Hall at 220 S.E. Green Street may use lawn sprinklers or irrigation systems on July 6 and July 8. While the Fire Department headquarters at 207 S.E. Douglas would be able to use lawn sprinkler and irrigation systems on July 7 and July 9.
All customers may continue to use watering cans or hand-held hoses on all days. There are no restrictions on the use of power washers, car washes, fountains, pools or similar equipment or devices. Washing vehicles at home is allowed with the use of a hose with a hand-held trigger mechanism.
This approach includes all commercial and residential customers.
Customers will be notified through local media outlets and the City’s communication methods, including the City’s website at www.cityofls.net, Nixle and LSTV when normal water usage may occur. For more information, call the City’s Water Utilities Department at (816) 969-1900.
