Animals, Acting and Babysitting

June 7, 2014
Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation is offering week long Animal Wonders Summer Camps. June camps are June 16 – 20 and June 23 – 27. Both are from 9am to 12pm. These exciting camps allows kids ages five through twelve to get up close and personal with live examples and learn about the lives of animals from tiny insects to exotic birds and mammals. New topics will be covered each day. Students will learn about animal care, behaviors, ecosystems, terminology, and perform age appropriate experiments. For those who prefer to stretch out the program, Animal Wonders Workshops are also available. In July participants ages two to twelve can choose from Monday classes, 2-3pm from July 7-28 orTuesday classes, 7-8pm from July 8 – 29.
Camps and Workships are held at Legacy Park Community Center at 901 NE Bluestem Drive in Lee’s Summit.

If acting is more your child’s interest, be sure to check outCamp Shakespeare for kids ages 8 to 14. The camp is a unique summer arts experience that will create lasting memories and is set for July 7 – 18 from 8:30am – 3:30pm. Students will improve their understanding of literature and renaissance times while creating their own version of a Shakespearean classic, “A Midsummer Night's Dream”. Drama, visual art, dance and stage combat all come together in the delightful camp, taught by professional actors. Participants will build confidence, be encouraged to use teamwork, and be motivated to unleash creativity. The camp can also improve reading skills and concentration. Parents and friends will be able to enjoy the fruits of the students’ labor by attending a final performance on the evening of the final day of camp. Camp Shakespeare will take place at Legacy Park Community Center.

For the more business minded child Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation is offering Babysitter Bootcamp. There are two classes being offered this summer. The first class is on June 20 from 9am – 2:30pm and the second on July 18 also from9am – 2:30pm. The instructor creates an environment where new recruits will learn how to play effectively with children of all ages, prepare chow, manage lights-out, discipline, personal and child safety, first aid and CPR. Participants will also prepare business cards, create a marketing plan and determine how to prepare for any sitting job. Participants need to bring a sack lunch and drink. Babysitter Boot Camp will be held at Leagcy Park Community Center.

All of these programs require pre-registration and the sooner the better because there is a savings if registered before the Early Bird deadline ends! For registration information and fees visit www.lsparks.net or call Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation at 816-969-1500.
