Assault on two police officers

September 24, 2012

A St. Louis man has been charged with firing a weapon at
two Kansas City police officers, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Cahlan Clay, 24, faces two counts of Assault 1st Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.

According to court records, shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, Clay fired a gun in a parking lot near 1520 Grand. Officers, working off duty, responded to the parking lot and spotted Clay. He fired a round at the officers, then fled. When an officer chased him, Clay pointed the weapon at him, and the officer fired at Clay, striking him. The other officer chased another man with Clay, until Clay began firing at the first officer.

Prosecutors requested a $500,000 cash bond on Clay.
