Area Kansas City Chiefs fans will want to mark Friday, June 3 on their calendar as a good day to visit Downtown Lee’s summit. The band behind the theme song of the 2010 Chiefs playoff season “Chop it up” will be performing at 7p.m.  as part of the annual downtown Days, streets alive festival. Coming all the way from their hometown of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Sownds is ready to play all their songs from their first CD titled “Welcome to the Show.” The three member band recently held a CD release party, Saturday, March 19 in Tulsa, Oklahoma as part of several events surrounding an NCAA regional held there. Having their music related to sports is NO surprise as the band members are all big sports fans. Lead vocalist Morgan Ganem is a big KC Chiefs and thanks to his mom’s idea wrote the chant Chop it up. After sending the team a copy of the song the Chiefs…loved.  Loved…it so much that they sent a crew to Sand Springs to shoot a music video. The popular video showed the band and many local residents at Sand Springs High School  football stadium doing the chant. In addition to the Chiefs the band find themselves getting airplay on TV during Fox sports network coverage of the NCAA tournament. Thanks to a friend in L.A.  the band’s song “We need a Hero” is used during the network highlight footage of the Tournament.

Sownds consists of vocalist Morgan Ganem, Kipp Clodfelter on guitar and Sean Hamilton on drums. Ganem developed a love of music as a youth in Branson, Missouri watching his dad IJ Ganem perform in area shows. While Sownds’ first CD is now available, some songs are already getting wideradio  airplay in Oklahoma. This writer’s favorite “The Greatest Goodbye” is growing the band’s popularity. The title track “Welcome to the Show” is also getting attention from radio programmers. More info on the band can be found on their website www.sownds.net.  Sownds appearance is only one of the many acts to take the stage at Downtown Days.
