On Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at 11:50 a.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2200 Block of SW Waterfall Place. The occupant of the house reported a fire in the bedroom.
When the fire department arrived, there was no smoke or fire visible from the outside of the single family residence and all of the occupants had evacuated the building.
Firefighters entered the house and had the fire in the bedroom extinguished by 12:06 p.m. The fire heavily damaged the bedroom, but the closed door to the bedroom kept smoke and heat damage to the remainder of the house to a minimum.
One person from the house was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. No medical information will be made available.
The cause of the fire was determined to combustible materials ignited by improperly discarded smoking materials.
