Gentry J. Viers, 30 was arrested on 10-14-2011 in Norfolk, Virginia on two counts of statutory sodomy of a 4 year old child in Greenwood, Missouri.  According to Greenwood Police Chief Robert Leslie after Viers had moved out of the victim’s residence, the victim told his parents about the alleged incidents involving he and Viers.

A warrant was issued for Viers on Oct. 12, 2011 for first degree statutory sodomy with a bond amount of $75,000.00.

The Greenwood Police Department had received information that Viers was attempting to obtain a passport and flee to the country of Columbia.  A nationwide search was conducted by the Greenwood Police Department Chief and personnel to find Viers before he could leave the country.  They found that he was staying in a hotel located in Norfolk, Virginia.  The Norfolk, Virginia Police Department was contacted by the Greenwood Police Department as to Viers exact location and Viers was taken into custody without incident.

Chief Leslie said that he and his personnel were working around the clock to find Viers and get him in custody. Viers has an extradition hearing scheduled for some time next week in Norfolk, Virginia.

Chief Leslie stated “I am very happy that Viers is in custody due to all of the hard work that the Greenwood Police Department personnel completed in order to make it happen. Crimes committed by adults against children are the worst crimes there are because not only are they victimizing one of the most precious things there is in the world, but also stealing away their innocence and childhood which can never be replaced."
