Character Patrol - Ed Lipowicz

May 4, 2013

Responsibility is defined as accepting personal responsibility; acting without continual guidance or superior authority. A few years ago I met Ed Lipowicz the owner of Flooring and More. Ed is one of those people who is compassionate and who searches for ways he can help others. Rarely have I seen a person so committed to helping people less fortunate.

He offers his van for service any time a project requires transporting equipment from one place to another. He offers his time and talents when someone is in need of his skills. He thinks "outside the box" to make volunteer jobs easier. I have seen him lay flooring at Hope House and offer a warm van for people to rest in during bike races and deliver supplies to those who needed it. I witnessed hi s plea to fellow Rotarians to assist with a project for a teacher in the school district who has cancer – renovating her house, and I heard later that he worked consistently on this project until it was done.

He even thinks of the small things, like sponsoring a table at the Habitat for Humanity Prayer Breakfast which he asked me to attend. I didn’t see him at this inspiring breakfast. Later, when I asked him what happened, he told me that he was at the Eastland Community Foundation of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation board meeting. He didn’t realize these events were on the same day.

I would like to thank Ed for all he does for the community. He is humble. The only reason you hear about some of the ways Ed donates his time and resources to this community is because others talk about it. Does Ed epitomize responsibility? Without a doubt!

I am honored to have Ed Lipowicz as a friend. I hope he always realizes his dream.
