With the holidays fast approaching, the magic of the season comes to light for thousands of people at Jackson County Parks & Recreation’s “Christmas In The Park.” Beginning November 23rd, over 300,000 lights, 175 animated figures and splashes of Christmas color will transform Longview Lake Park into an enchanting winter wonderland. “Christmas In The Park” has been enjoyed by more than one million people, making this magical experience one of the region’s most popular holiday happenings. Each year we keep adding to the fun. With blushed cheeks, chilled toes and frosted nose, come get a glimpse of Jackson County ’s new friendly Holiday Dragon and ‘Believe’ Ice Skates displayed at Longview Lake ’s Christmas in the Park. Standing 18 feet tall and 36 feet wide, our friendly holiday Dragon has blinking blue eyes, a wagging tail, and brightly colored body that are sure to entertain.
We’ve added the color purple to Christmas In The Park this year and its debut will be in a pair of sparkling Ice Skates reaching 24 feet in height. Our “Believe” Ice Skates display will shine through 200 feet of sparkling stranded light, vibrantly animating the word “Believe”. 99.7 The Point and Jackson County have planned another fantastic opening for “Christmas In The Park.” While most folks are thinking “brrrr”, we’re thinking beach… Longview Lake Beach , for “Christmas In The Sky” and “Christmas In The Park.” Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 23rd, as thousands celebrate the 24th anniversary of “Christmas In The Park.”
Musical performances, which include over 100 singers and dancers from Monica’s School of Dance , precede a colorful fireworks display synchronized to music. After the fire in the sky, over 300,000 lights and 175 animated displays will illuminate the night at Longview Campground. Bring the family to this memorable evening and you have just kicked off your holidays Jackson County style. 99.7 The Point and Jackson County’s “Christmas In The Sky” begins at 6:00 P.M. (gates open at 5:00 P.M.). The amazing fireworks display over Longview Lake starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. “Christmas In The Park” has also become synonymous with benefiting those less fortunate. While there is no charge for this drive-thru event, donations are accepted with a portion of the proceeds being divided among 39 local charities. Thanks to the generosity of our community, to date we have eclipsed the half-a-million-dollar mark donated to charitable organizations right here at home. Close to 200,000 people throughout the Greater Metropolitan Kansas City and Johnson County areas share in this special holiday experience each year.
