City Crews will Pre-treat Roadways Wednesday
February 19, 2013
The City of Lee’s Summit’s Public Works crews are preparing snow equipment today (Feb. 19) in order to begin pre-treating roadways with rock salt on Wednesday, Feb. 20, before winter weather returns to the area early Thursday, Feb. 21.
The winter storm is forecast to begin early Thursday before the morning commute to work and school, bringing significant accumulations of sleet and snow across Lee’s Summit and the metropolitan area into Thursday afternoon.
The City’s crews will work in 12 hour shifts around the clock to plow and treat roadways. The plan is to plow and treat arterials, collectors and residential streets with at least one pass initially. Once the snow stops all streets will be plowed curb-to-curb and treated with rock salt.
Although crews will continue to plow around the clock, residents should be aware that driving conditions will be affected by the wintery mix.
As with all snow events, the City will continue to monitor the weather and adjust snow removal operations as needed.
You may call the Snow Desk at (816) 969-1870. Normal business hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. During winter storm events, the Snow Desk operates 24 hours a day.
