City of Grain Valley considers future of Valley Speedway

July 9, 2014

The City of Grain Valley will hold a 7 p.m. hearing on Thurs., July 10 to consider whether Valley Speedway is violating the terms of the Conditional Use Permit that allows it to operate a racetrack in an area where racetracks are not otherwise permitted.

During the proceeding, the City and Valley Speedway will present evidence regarding the operation of the racetrack and the Conditional Use Permit.  Grain Valley Mayor Mike Todd will preside over the hearing, and the Grain Valley Board of Aldermen will consider the evidence that is presented.  The Board of Aldermen is charged with hearing the facts of the dispute, and making a final ruling.

The City moved to hold the hearing after determining the track’s owner, Dennis Shrout, continues to run races in violation of the City’s Conditional Use Permit issued on December 15, 2003.
