City's Snow Crew Prepared for Winter Weather on Friday

December 12, 2013

With a forecast of rain and freezing rain on the morning of Friday, Dec. 13, the City of Lee’s Summit is scheduling an 18-person snow removal crew to treat roads, beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday.

By Friday night, the rain and snow mixture will transition into all snow with widespread slickness expected for Friday evening rush hour. Lee’s Summit is forecast to receive from 3-6 inches of snow.

The City is scheduling up to 30 personnel to plow and treat roadways throughout the City. They will begin at 7 p.m. and will continue until all City-owned streets are plowed and treated.

Residents are asked to help with the snow removal process by remembering to do the following:

    Remove vehicles from streets
Shovel snow to the side of your driveway to lessen the amount of snow left at your driveway entrance
Clear snow from around fire hydrants so they can be easily located during emergencies
Do not make snow tunnels on or near streets or driveways. Snow plows and other drivers may not see the snow tunnels and could accidently injure someone playing inside of them.

As with all winter weather events, the City’s snow removal crews will continue to monitor the weather and update their response as needed.

The City’s Snow Desk has normal business hours from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, during winter storm events, the desk will operate for a longer period of time.

Facebook and Twitter. Residents are also encouraged to stay up-to-date on weather information by listening to local newscasts.
