Austin Minor Selected For Prestigious Monsanto Summer Internship

August 18, 2012

This summer, Austin Minor from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, will join the more than 21 million Americans who produce, process, and sell the nation’s food and fiber, during an internship with Monsanto Company. Minor, one of 50 selected interns, will assist the Channel sales force in Manhattan, Kansas, while making industry connections, networking with other young professionals and gaining hands-on agricultural experience.
“We selected the 2012 class of interns from a broad group of applicants from across the U.S.,” Rodd Whitney, Monsanto Talent Acquisition Specialist, said.

From May 21 through August 10, Minor will build strong sales skills and relationships with customers by completing a pre-assigned project. With the guidance of an area business manager and local sales representative, he will call on customers and assist the local sales team in delivering outstanding customer service.

“My favorite part about the internship is being around people all day,” Minor said. “Simply put, I like talking to farmers about current, prevalent issues in agriculture. I learn something new every day, whether it be about agronomy, grain marketing, or sales. Every day is different for me, and I enjoy that.”

Minor attends the University of Missouri and studies agribusiness management and agricultural systems management. Outside of the classroom, he is treasurer of the Agricultural Economics Club, the finance chair of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Week Steering Committee, the student council representative for Alpha MU, the Agricultural Systems Management Academic Honors Club and an active member of the Agricultural Systems Management Club.

Minor plans to pursue a career in agriculture with the goal of becoming a district sales manager and a certified crop advisory for a see company.

Monsanto Company is a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality. Monsanto remains focused on enabling both small-holder and large-scale farmers to produce more from their land while conserving more of our world’s natural resources such as water and energy.
