More than 360 folks enjoyed the free Family Swim Party for all Children with Autism or Special Needs in the Spectrum at Coco Keys Water Resort on Sunday, February 24th. This event was made possible by Autism Outreach Fellowship.

“The families really seem to enjoy that they can bring their entire family to an event and it doesn’t cost them anything,” Autism Outreach Fellowship Board President, Betty Sharp, said.

Autism Outreach Fellowship is a nonprofit that sponsors free events for families with special needs children. One such event is the Family Swim Party at Coco Keys Water Resort.

“Coco Keys made it very easy. They were very generous and worked with us so that it was possible for us to do this event for so many families,” Sharp said.

These events provide a safe environment for the children to play and interact with other while providing an opportunity for like children and parents to make new friends.

The events would not be possible without the help of volunteers.

“Jumpstart from UMKC has had volunteers at our events from the very beginning. They have just been fantastic,” Sharp said.  http://www.jstart.org/

Last summer Autism Outreach Fellowship sponsored a three day and two night camping experience for families at the Rotary Youth Camp. Other annual family events are the Halloween Pumpkin Party in October and the Christmas Party.

Board members, Betty Sharp, Debbie Stoddard, Jim Wining, Pam Wining, Terri Pigue and Linda Ahern have taken time out of their own lives to make these events possible; however, these events could not take place without the help of donations.

Donations can be made by check to Autism Outreach Fellowship and sent to 107 SE 291 Hwy, PMB 181, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.

On May 5th, Coco Keys will offer discounts to those who mention Autism Outreach Fellowship. A portion of these sales will go to Autism Outreach Fellowship and help fund more of these events.

Autism Outreach Fellowship also sells Chuck-A-Puck at certain Maverick hockey games as a fundraiser.
Autism Outreach Fellowship would like to thank Coco Keys, Jumpstart, and all of those who helped put this event together. Autism Outreach Fellowship would also like to thank Mike and Cindi Sharp for their generous request that instead of wedding gifts that their friends donate to Autism Outreach Fellowship.

If you have or know of children with Autism or Special Needs in the spectrum and would like to be on their mailing list of future free family events, please email: AutismOutreachFellowship@yahoo.com.

The organization would like suggestions for future family events. Visit their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AustimOutreachFellowship.
