Donate Your Bible Records

February 23, 2013

A new project of the Jackson County Genealogical Society (JCGS) is collecting Bible records.  Carl Wilder, Project Coordinator, feels that “We are at the top of the Genealogy chain right now.  It’s up to us to pass onto our sons and daughters our family. Collecting Bible records needs to be done to help others locate their relatives which is one of our goals.” Often, the only place that 19th-century marriages, births and deaths are recorded is in the family Bible. Some Bibles will have extended pages and a copy of the family trees.

JCGS would like for people to donate their Bible records.  You may make a photocopy of the names, births, deaths, marriages, title page of the Bible, copyright page and mail it to us at: Jackson County Genealogical Society
P.O. Box 1133
Independence, Mo. 64051

Or, if you would like to bring it to Jackson County Genealogical Society, we would be most happy to scan it for you. We are located in the historical Truman Depot on Pacific Street south of the Community of Christ Auditorium.  Look for the red caboose. The address is: 1111 W. Pacific in Independence.

Carl already has 65 records of family names.  There’s going to be offshoots.  Some families are related to each other. If possible, type all handwritten text, so we don’t misspell your family names!   Carl also shares, “We are low on space so if you don’t want your Bible, I will put it in my personal collection at home.”

If you have any questions, please call 816-252-8128 at the Jackson County Genealogy Society on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays.
