Special to the Tribune

The Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club held our 4th Annual “Empty Bowls” event at the Longview Mansion on Feb. 4. This event benefits “One Good Meal,” a nonprofit organization serving the Lee’s Summit community.

Almost 300 attended the event, where they each selected a hand crafted ceramic bowl and then sampled a fantastic selection of soups, breads and desserts provided by local businesses. The event also included a raffle and a live auction, everything benefiting One Good Meal.

Our gratitude goes out to all of this year’s participants. The participating restaurants and caterers were:  Neighborhood Café, Perazelli’s Italian Ristorante, Maggie’s Authentic Mexican Foods, CIAO! Bella Ristorante, Downtown Deli, Price Chopper on Blue Parkway, J. Bean’s Restaurant, Thai Spice, The Fig Tree Cafe & Bakery, Affordable Elegance Catering, Beth Smith: The Bread Lady, Hy-Vee East, Whistle Stop Coffee & Mercantile, SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza, Sweet Tomatoes, Gusto! Coffee and Bistro, The Longview Mansion and Monetti’s Taste of Italy. The bowls were provided by The Potter’s Obsession, K.C. Clay Guild Artists and many individual students and local artists.

Attendees voted on their choice of best of each category. The winning bread was from Monettis Taste of Italy. The award for the best soup went to the Neighborhood Café. The Fig Tree Café won best dessert for the second year in a row.

We would like to thank all who attended as well as the sponsors for making this year’s event a success. Lee’s Summit is a great community and to see so many people attending, having fun, and supporting a good cause was a great feeling. Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary is comprised of local businessmen and women who live by the motto “Service Above Self.” We are involved in many local, regional and international charities and believe that we “can make a difference.” If you’re interested in learning more about us, or how you can participate, you can e-mail us at info@lssunriserotary.com or visit www.lssunriserotary.com.
