Introducing Character Patrol in Lee's Summit

September 21, 2012

intern reporter for
the Tribune

Random acts of kindness seem to be nonexistent in the world we live in today. However, that is not true.

We simply live our lives from one moment to the next never really savoring what each individual moment has to offer. The kindness is still there; it’s our job to slow down and notice it.

The Lee’s Summit Tribune is partnering with Lee’s Summit CARES to administer Character Patrol.

Character Patrol is a written account of random acts of kindness that can be submitted by anyone in the community. It will be published weekly in the Tribune.

Roby Little, Lee’s Summit CARES director, has started off Character Patrol with her own recognition of a random act of kindness sighted on September 8.

“It was 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 8. A bunch of us were volunteering for the Heart of the Summit Race. The LSHS parking lot was blocked off because it was the turn-around spot for the racers.

Suddenly, several cars were trying to come in from the east side of the high school to park. After they parked they had to walk around the school from the east side of the track.

Where were they going on a Saturday morning? To take the ACT in Building B!

Needless to say their stress level was elevated. One young man, who was not a student at the school, didn’t know which way to go. Kerri Gray, president of Lee’s Summit CARES, came to his rescue.

She walked with him to help him navigate the campus. In order to get there in time, they both jumped a fence!

A missed picture opportunity!  Kerri got him to building B and helped him find his room. He was on time!  Way to go, Kerri!” Little said.

Be inspired to notice the random acts of kindness that are part of every day.
