Lee’s Summit AFJROTC Excel At Nevada Drill Meet

Cadets from the AFJROTC at Lee’s Summit West, Lee’s Summit North, and Lee’s Summit High School traveled to Nevada, Missouri on Saturday, January 19 to complete in the Nevada High School JROTC Drill Meet. 

During the event, teams and individuals from 13 schools in Kansas and Missouri competed against each other and in the end the many of Cadets from Lee’s Summit proudly retreated with trophies and medals.

The LSW Armed Regulation Drill Team, commanded by Nick Nathan, took 2nd place among 17 competing teams.  In addition, Nick Nathan place 2nd in the Final Individual Drill Down against over 250 other cadets.

The LSN Armed Color Guard commanded by Hali Gordon, with teammates Dominic Sherwood, Zach Sherwood, and Jolene Skaggs, won 4th place against 12 other teams. 

Zach Sherwood finished 20th in the Individual Drill Down and his brother Dominic Sherwood tied for 6th place.  The First Year Cadet drill team finished 5th in the Unarmed Regulation division. 

The Unarmed Regulation team finished in 4th place and the Armed Regulation team placed 6th.

The LSHS Unarmed Regulation Drill Team commanded by Kodi Hogan took 3rd place out of 21 competing teams.  During the Unarmed Exhibition competition, Melissa Hilker successfully led her team to a 2nd place trophy.  Lee’s Summit High School is also celebrating placing 2nd overall for the event.

The Cadets now have two weeks to prepare for their next competition scheduled for February 2 at Lee’s Summit High School.
