The streets of Lee’s Summit were alive Wednesday as children, parents, teachers, Lee’s Summit Police officers and other community members came together to celebrate International Walk to School Day.
The majority of the R-7 elementary schools participated in some way.
Lee’s Summit Elementary PTA met arrivals with breakfast items and Moose, a member of the Missouri Search and Rescue K-9 Team.
At Westview Elementary, Mayor Randy Rhoads and joined Livable Streets Advisory Board Chairperson Dr. Ed Kraemer to walk his grandson, Skyler Rhoads, and several other neighborhood children to class.
“It was great to see all of children walking to school this morning with friends, parents and neighbors,” said Mayor Rhoads.
“This was a great opportunity for them to enjoy nature, learn about safe routes to and from school and engage in a simple activity to promote physical fitness.”
