Keep an eye on the sign next to Lone Jack City Hall for Updates

Park Board continues to work on raising the down payment for a 30 acre property on which to build a large City park. Everyone can now keep track of the progress by watching the sign next to Lone Jack City Hall in front of Olde Town Hendrickson Park. A total of $100,000 is needed for the down payment. Park Board already had $50,000 in funds and has been working to raise the other $50,000 with the Purchase the Park Campaign. The Board needs to raise $30,000 more.

The property adjoins the east side of Lone Jack High School off Gibson Drive. Planned amenities will eventually include a couple soccer fields, walking trail, playground area, and a large picnic shelter. Discussions will begin this fall with the school district, Lone Jack Athletic Association, and park developers, along with an avenue for community input to determine the use of the remaining space. It will take time to have the funds to build these things, but, the community has to begin by acquiring the land and  developing a master plan for its use.

Bricks purchased for a donor wall to be built in the new park will be the largest avenue for raising the remaining funds needed. These can be purchased in different sizes for donations of $100 and up. The bricks will be inscribed with the purchaser’s name. They would also make a great gift or memorial for loved ones. Citizens or businesses that would like to help make the park a reality by purchasing a brick can pick up a donation form at Lone Jack City Hall. The form will also be available soon on the city website which is www.lonejackmo.org.  Plans for the design of the donor wall are underway.

Additional sales tax revenue also boosts the funds available, so patronizing local businesses helps, too!
