REVO draws Kansas City youth for live music, friends Teenagers have safe place at the REVO youth group of World Revival Church
June 14, 2012
Kansas City area teenagers are getting together weekly to make a difference, creating a safe place to gather. The group, called REVO, meets Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight at World Revival Church, with a live teen band, free food and activities in a positive atmosphere.
"We created REVO and started reaching out to the community because we saw an outbreak of violence against teenagers in the metro area. Now there’s a safe place for teenagers to go on the weekend that’s fun and offers an opportunity to have an experience with God," said James Koppang, director of REVO and youth pastor of World Revival Church.
Teenagers are noticing a difference and making friends with youth from Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Overland Park and the metro.
John Long, a senior at Lee’s Summit West said, "I’ve been to many youth events and have not met anyone. REVO is a place where you meet life-long friends. I love it! I always look forward to Fridays." Another REVO attendee, Erin Lynn says, "REVO has changed my life. I didn't like 'churchy' youth events, but REVO is fun and you can make friends. We don't have cliques here."
REVO meets every Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight at the campus of World Revival Church at 9900 View High Drive, Kansas City, MO 64134. Events are supervised and free snacks are provided, as teens play games and hear live music with a positive message.
