October 25, 2014

SCA juniors Zach McEwen and Payton Shippy named Badminton Doubles Champions for second year in a row

Summit Christian Academy (SCA) Global Connect Club recently hosted its annual Ping Pong & Badminton Tournament. Winners were juniors Payton Shippy and Zachary McEwen were once again donned kings of the court.  Zachary also won the Badminton Singles Champion title.  SCA Secondary Bible Teacher Mr. Wayne Stam beat out SCA sophomore Noah Coram to keep the Ping Pong Champion title.

“This tournament is really an opportunity for our international students and American students to have some fun together,” said SCA senior and Global Connect Club President Aaron Banks.  “Global Connect hosts events like this to help international and American students to continue learning about each other and to connect,” Aaron said.  “The competition is fun.”

Global Connect also hosts the International Festival in the Spring and invites several community agencies to participate in celebrating the diversity of our school community and the community at-large.
“We are very intentional about providing our international students with a variety of American cultural experience,” said SCA English Teacher and Global Connect co-facilitator Mr. Anthony Mickelson

“Ping Pong and Badminton are widely played around the world, and this tournament can sort of level the playing field and still be lots of fun for everyone,” said Mr. Mickelson.
