SCA Valedictorian Receives Chancellor’s Scholarship From Missouri University Science & Technology
July 21, 2012
Summit Christian Academy (SCA) recent graduate and valedictorian Shannah Withrow has been awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship at Missouri University Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). This is the top scholarship awarded to incoming freshman at Missouri S&T. She also received Missouri S&T’s Bright Flight, Curator’s, and Miner Alumni scholarships. A total of $54,000 in scholarships were offered and accepted by Withrow.
In addition, Withrow received a Best Buy Scholarship and Wise/Boeing Scholarship, each valued at $4,000. “These scholarships do not come easy,” said SCA Secondary Principal Emir A. Ruiz Esparza. “It takes hard work and dedication to obtain a 4.16 GPA in SCA’s rigorous academic program. Shannah accomplished this while earning a total of 35 college credit hours. She did all of this while being involved in Student Council, Student Government, Drama, the International Thespian Society, soccer, National Honor Society, debate, cheer, choir, National Forensics League and the International “Buddy” program.”
Ruth Terry, SCA history teacher, says of Withrow, “Shannah displays the ability to draw others into the decision-making process and build consensus. Her leadership style inspires others to participate actively and draws out their potential and insight. She leads with quiet strength and maturity, as well as with superb organizational skills.”
Withrow plans to study Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Management, minoring in Spanish and math when she begins classes in August.
Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is an independent, nondenominational Christian school serving over 660 preschool through high school students. Established in 1989, SCA is located on a 36-acre campus and holds dual accreditation through North Central Association and Association of Christian Schools International.
