Summit Theatre Group Opens The Music Man on July 27 with Large Local Cast
July 21, 2012
Summit Theatre Group, the most recent addition to the greater Kansas City community theatre scene, announces the second production of their inaugural season, The Music Man, written by Meredith Wilson. The classic American musical, which has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years, opens Friday, July 27 with performances through Sunday, July 29. Performances continue Thursday, August 2 through Saturday, August 4 at Lee’s Summit West High School Theatre, located at 2600 SW Ward Road in Lee’s Summit. The musical will feature 75 talented actors from the area, with performers ranging in age from five to 75. The cast, chosen in late May, has been hard at work with rehearsals which began in early June.
“It has been a great experience preparing to present this show for the community,” Jay Coombes, Director, said. “The cast has truly demonstrated what community theatre is about.”
The classic show is a comedic masterpiece for the entire family. The Music Man is set in River City, IA and follows con-man Harold Hill as he plots to trick locals into buying instruments for a town band so he can then skip town with their money. His scheme unravels, however, when the town librarian Harold has been charming, Marian, discovers his true plans
“Music Man celebrates common sense as a Midwestern value, while also having fun with some of our most recognizable stereotypes,” Ben Martin, Summit Theatre Group President, said. “Its wholesome comedic charm makes it a perfect show for the entire family.”
Doors open for all performances at 7:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. show time, except for Sunday, July 29, when the entertainment begins mid-afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at www.summittheatregroup.com/tickets or at the door. Prices are $15.00 for adults and $13.50 for students under 18 or seniors 60 and above.
