The Lee’s Summit Arts Council presents an exhibition of works by Martice Smith II. The exhibit will be held at the Gamber Center April 26 though July 19 during regular operating hours.
The opening reception is set for Thursday, May 3 beginning at 6:30pm. The artist will be holding an artist talk at 7pm. Stop by and view not just her original illustrations, but also her one of a kind jewelry and learn about what inspires her. Martice says her current focus is to express power and beauty of femininity through fashion illustration.
The women she draws are culminations of family members, friends and characters she created, representing a combination of attitudes and personalities with a look back on the late 60s and early 70s. She uses a range of media but watercolor and pen and ink allow her to see the work build up in several layers, describing a constant evolution of her ideas and refinement. “I hope to uncover the extraordinary in the ordinary; considering the ultimate luxury is not the price of the person or clothing but the spirit”.
The Gamber Center is located at 4 SE Independence Avenue in Lee’s Summit. Exhibit Hours are Monday - Thursday: 6am - 9pm; Friday: 6am - 5pm, Saturday: 9am - 5pm; Sunday: Noon - 4pm. For more information call 816.969.1580 or visit www.lsartscouncil.net
