There’s No Place Like Home For This Lee’s Summit Physician

Stipend program helps bring family physician Christopher Blanner, MD, back to his roots
Christopher Blanner, MD, grew up near Lee’s Summit. He acquired his passion for medicine as young patient at Family Health Specialists in Lee’s Summit. Now Dr. Blanner’s life has come full circle—he is a physician, practicing medicine and treating patients in the very same practice he went to as a youngster. He completed his residency in summer 2011 at the University of Missouri–Kansas City at Truman Medical Center Lakewood and graduated from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 2011. Dr. Blanner started working at Family Health Specialists, part of Midwest Physicians, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest—Kansas City’s largest healthcare network—one month later.
HCA’s Resident/Fellow Stipend Program allowed Dr. Blanner, who was linked with the innovative program during his training and early in his medical career, to return to his community to practice medicine.
“I’m so grateful for HCA’s stipend program. It allowed me to focus my time during my residency and training solely on learning and developing my skills as a physician,” says Dr. Blanner. “ I didn’t have to worry about the financial stress of my residency or what the next steps in my career path would be.”
Because Lee’s Summit Medical Center, an award-winning hospital serving the community with advanced technology and expanding services, is part of HCA Midwest, Blanner was able to choose this community as the launching pad for his career in medicine.
“I don’t have the words to express what it means to be serving the community where I was once a young patient,” says Dr. Blanner.
