CrossFit Lee’s Summit Hosts 31 Hero’s WOD

August 29, 2011

By Mary Pechar

As we learned last year with the Bugaboo Fundraising WOD (Lee’s Summit Tribune 9-6-10), the CrossFit community is a nationwide family.

On September 3rd, CrossFit gyms across the nation and world will gather together to honor the heroes killed in action August 6, 2011.

Join your fellow fitness friends at 11:00 a.m. and participate in the 31 Hero’s WOD being held locally at CrossFit Lee’s Summit located at 1347 NW Main.

According to CrossFit co-owner Jeremy Brownlee, “The hero WOD is dedicated to the service and bravery of the 30 American men and 1 K-9 killed 08-06-11 in Wardak province, Afghanistan when their CH-47 was shot down with a rocket propelled grenade.

The workout  will be a brutal CrossFit workout designed to show the guts and grit of the men it honors, however,  the workout can and will be scaled for CrossFitters of any athletic ability (but will be set at everyone’s threshold levels).”

CrossFitters from around the country will be joining the WOD in Lee’s Summit and family members of the fallen Heroes will honor us as guests.

In addition to the workout there will be a barbecue. CrossFit will provide grilled and smoked burgers, hot dogs, chicken and pork and asks that guests bring a side dish and their choice of beverage.

Bring a lawn chair and plan to participate in other athletic challenges like washers. Please, this is a family affair, but parents, please ensure that your children stay out of the WOD area.

There will be a raffle and all proceeds will go to the local Hero’s families. Register at the following link http://31heroes.com/registration/ or email Jeremy at Jeremy@crossfitls.com
