Bean Lake, Mo. -- Dead fish in ice and along shorelines recently attracted numerous bald eagles to Bean Lake in northern Platte County. Both mature bald eagles with the white heads and tails, and immature eagles with darker coloration, flocked by the dozens to feed on the fish. Eagles migrating during winter will sometimes congregate in large numbers if food is plentiful.
These eagles were photographed on Friday, Jan. 18.
Snow geese and other waterfowl are also lingering in the region, such as these snow geese at Sugar Lake in Lewis and Clark State Park, which is north of Bean Lake off Missouri 45.
