Parker Swearngin LLP celebrated their official ribbon cutting and open house in their new office at 215 S.E. Douglas Tuesday. Located next door to John’s Barber Shop, the office is a contemporary jewel in a historic downtown setting.
As friends and partners, Angela Parker and Jennifer Swearngin have created a stunning environment for their business. Walking in the front door, you could think you have mistakenly entered an art gallery.
“Being in an old building, we were planning a traditional environment,” said Swearngin. “We were hoping to find a wonderful brick wall to leave partially exposed.” But that was not to be, and the modern contemporary environment evolved.
If you visit their web site at www.parkerswearngin.biz you will see their philosophy: “If a belief in long-term relationships, staff professionalism, and honoring our commitments makes you old-fashioned, then we here at Parker Swearngin LLP wear that label with pride.”
Parker and Swearngin have worked together since June of 1996, often in the same office space. In January 2005, the two opened Parker Swearngin LLP in Blue Springs. In August of that year, the company moved to Lee’s Summit. Their long-term relationship also includes office staff member, Daneen Thurman, who has worked with the pair since 1997.
“They pay me to work here,” Thurman said, “but I work here because I love it.”
This professional staff focuses on small- to medium-sized closely held businesses, providing complete business financial support, including income tax compliance and planning and payroll as well as QuickBooks expertise and education. Their web site provides you with a wealth of information and planning tools.
As they began to plan their new office space, the partners committed themselves to their belief in green construction and operating practices. Working with Meyer Complete LLC and Solar Link US, they have created a contemporary, efficient work space. ServiceMark Telecommunications created a VOIP phone/computer network. That commitment includes the first solar panels in Downtown Lee’s Summit. The electricity they generate powers the office space, and the excess energy flows back to the grid, benefiting the rest of the community. That commitment includes using local small businesses and their neighbors.
A common perception of an accountant’s office is of one covered with stacks and piles of paperwork. While every work task has been carefully planned and the appropriate space allocated, the small number of filing cabinets is striking. All documents are scanned, encrypted and then stored in off-site facilities.
