Lee’s Summit Irish Goods Shop Celebrates 5 years
Charles Denton of Lee’s Summit Missouri opened his Irish goods shop just outside of the Downtown grid 5 years ago, on southeast Third Street. Having just retired from SBC Corporation after a 31 year career, he felt the need to continue. No need to settle back and rest, not yet. He decided to open a 4th Irish Jewel for the Kansas City Metro area, Doherty & Sullivan’s Irish Goods, named after his and his wife’s grandparents. In this period of time, he has accomplished many things, some planned, and others on the spur of the moment. “I went to Ireland to meet with my vendors and just fell in love with the place. The people and the surroundings are out of this world. You can’t imagine a lovelier place, except for Lee’s Summit!” The Emerald Isle Parade, held in Downtown Lee’s Summit was developed through the cooperation of Mary Pechar and the Downtown Lees Summit Main Street organization. It is held on the Saturday just before St. Patrick’s Day, which is March 17th.
Stor’ Jewelry, also in residence at the same location, was started 5 years ago as well. Co -owners, mother and daughter team, Brenda and Renata Henley will be celebrating too. Their jewelry is representative of a Dublin designer, Alan Ardiff, as well as other highlighted Irish designers, and displayed at the shop.
Anniversary festivities included a real Irish Session, which involves invited musicians gathering at a designated time to ‘join in’ on whatever music has begun. It’s a rousing good time, and very interesting. Light refreshments and general visiting and Irish Hospitality was the order of the evening. The session started at 7:00 on Friday, December 4th at the shop, located 213 SE Main Street in downtown Lee’s Summit.
