Summer time is BBQ time!

It’s no secret that our part of the country is known for great barbeque, but what makes The Filling Station’s barbeque unique is more than it’s locale.

The Filling Station, located at 333 SE Douglas is what the name suggests: an old filling station which has been converted into the home for some of Lee’s Summit’s best BBQ!  Built originally in the 1930’s as a gas station, the spot has seen lots of changes.  After the service station closed, it became a lawn and garden store.  After that it was vacant for a time before being converted into what you see today: a restaurant chock full of personality!

Out front there are antique fuel pumps and inside there is plenty of memorabilia to see.  Things such as Route 66 signs and old-fashioned ads adorn the walls.

Owner Jill Davolt and her son Jordan Davolt, who is the General Manager, keep this family run business smokin’.  Jill says,  “We are a family owned and operated business.  Even the few employees who aren’t blood related are like family.  One of the things that set us apart from other places is that it’s more personal here.  This is a hometown kind of place.”

Aside from the fun décor and the personal service what most people come for is the food.

One feature that makes The Filling Station different than other BBQ restaurants is that they do not serve their food with sauce already on it.  They offer many varieties and let the customer choose.   From slow cooked pulled pork to ribs and chicken, this place will get your mouth watering!  They also offer hard to find RC soda products such as RC Cola and Red Cream Soda.  A kid’s menu is available as well as old-fashioned treats such as Cherry Mash and Moon Pies.

The Filling Station is open 7 days a week, Sunday and Monday from 11-4, Tuesday-Thursday from 11-8 and Friday and Saturday from 11-9.

Stop in today to sample a slice of BBQ heaven!  Dine in or carry out is available, as well as customized catering.(816) 347-0794

I have dined at the Filling Station BBQ, and can honestly say it is the best.
A very clean family owned place and very friendly. I love the old nostalgiac
items and antiques around the restaurant and the old fashioned red cream
soda, and of course the cherry mash bars.
    Great atmosphere, and wonderful people.
