Dr. Brent Blevins named R-7 deputy superintendent of operations for 2014-15

December 19, 2013

Dr. Brent Blevins

Dr. Brent Blevins, currently superintendent of the Forsyth R-3 School District, was named Lee's Summit R-7 School District deputy superintendent for operations for the 2014-15 school year. Dr. Blevins' appointment was approved by the R-7 Board of Education at a Dec. 19 meeting.

A Missouri educator since 1996, Dr. Blevins will replace Dr. Tom Kurucz, who is retiring at the end of the 2013-14 school year. Dr. Blevins has served as superintendent of the Forsyth R-3 School District since 2007.

Before becoming superintendent, Dr. Blevins worked within the Forsyth R-3 School District as an assistant superintendent, assistant principal and teacher. He began his teaching career as a social studies teacher and coach at the Spokane School District, becoming a physical-education teacher and coach for the Ava School District before beginning at Forsyth in 1999.

"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the Lee's Summit School District," said Dr. Blevins. "I look forward to working in a district with such a great reputation that continues to be innovative in providing a great education for the students in the community."

Dr. Blevins earned his bachelor's degree in secondary education from the College of the Ozarks and his master's degree, specialist degree and doctorate in educational administration from Lindenwood University.

As superintendent at the Forsyth R-3 School District, Dr. Blevins has been active in his local community as well as within regional and state education organizations. In 2012, he was named the Forsyth Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. He serves as the president of the Southwest Missouri Education Insurance Consortium and as a member of the Missouri Association of School Administrators/Missouri School Boards' Association State Vision Project Committee.

Dr. Blevins is also a member of the Community Foundation of Taney County Board of Directors and the Silver Dollar City Care for Kids Foundation Board of Directors.
