The rise of the dual income, community-minded “Soccer Mom Family” is a demographic trend that’s taken hold in Lee’s Summit over the past five years. That insight, along with dozens of additional data points, is part of a one-of-a-kind, comprehensive economic development study of the Lee’s Summit community conducted by North Star Destination Strategies and presented to EDC and City leaders.
“This data will inform the City’s economic development strategy for the next 18-24 months,” said EDC President and CEO Rick McDowell. “Besides gaining valuable insight into key demographic trends, North Star’s research will now enable the EDC and City to target specific industries for expansion and new business attraction.”
Rupa DeLoach, senior vice president of research services for North Star, presented research findings to investors at the Lee’s Summit EDC monthly luncheon on Wed., Oct. 7, and to the Lee’s Summit City Council on Thur., Oct. 8.
“North Star has worked with hundreds of communities of all sizes on to themselves. It is rare for an economic development organization to seek such in-depth demographic and industry related information,” DeLoach said.
The proprietary data will help EDC and the City save valuable time and money by focusing on targeted, ‘winnable’ projects in industries that will be complemented by the Lee’s Summit workforce.
“Over the next several months, the EDC will use the data to outline an economic development strategy designed to draw new industry to Lee’s Summit while identifying growth opportunities for existing businesses,” McDowell said.
