Fatal I-470 rollover kills one Lee's Summit 12 year old

Nov. 17, 2011

A 12-year-old boy is dead after a rollover accident on eastbound Interstate 470 Thursday morning.

Accident investigation specialists responded to the scene of a confirmed fatality crash, which occurred about 300 yards west of View High, according to Sgt Stacey Graves of the Kansas City Police Department.

Investigation determined that a gold Chevrolet SUV had been eastbound in the extreme right lane of 470 when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver swerved on to the right shoulder, then abruptly cut back to the left and crossed all traffic lanes. During that time, the vehicle overturned two times and came to rest against the concrete median barrier.

A 12-year-old male rear seat passenger, Waylon Greene, in the vehicle died of his injuries shortly after being transported to a hospital. A 14-year-old male front seat passenger, Chase Greene, and the 35-year-old female driver were also transported with non-life threatening injuries. Causes remain under investigation.

Traffic investigators ask anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident to call the
TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
