Fire Damages A Greenwood Home

December 1, 2012

On Friday, November 23, 2012, at 10:59 p.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 104 20th Avenue South, in the City of Greenwood. The occupant of the house returned home from a walk and heard the smoke alarms sounding from outside. He opened the garage door to find the house filled with smoke, and went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

When the fire department arrived, no smoke was visible from the outside of a split-level, single family residence. The occupant was outside.

When firefighters entered the structure they found the lower level filled with smoke and quickly extinguished a fire in a downstairs bathroom. The fire was under control by 11:10 p.m.

Fire damage was contained to the bathroom, with varying amounts of smoke damage to the remainder of the house.

The fire is under investigation by the City of Greenwood.
