On Wednesday, October 31, 2012, law enforcement deployed from the Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office’s Sex Offender Registration and Enforcement Unit to go door to door verifying compliance of sex offenders reportedly living in Jackson County.
For several hours, nearly 25 law enforcement officials visited the homes of sex offenders ensuring they were abiding by the statute as well as assisting Probation and Parole with ensuring their clients were abiding by the guidelines set forth by the Courts.
During the operation, law enforcement conducted a total of 137 sex offender residence checks. While there, they found 25 non-compliant sex offenders, and three people were arrested for outstanding warrants.
The compliance sweep included law enforcement from Blue Springs, Grandview, Independence, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, and Raytown Police Departments as well as the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
“We want to ensure we are doing everything possible to protect the children of our community, and that is why we are dedicated to ensuring sex offenders abide by this statute”, said Sheriff Mike Sharp.
We always appreciate the participation we have from the public. We know that by forewarning sex offenders that law enforcement, as well as their neighbors, would be checking on their compliance has proven beneficial. In addition, we encourage everyone to continue vigilantly checking the sex offender registry.
If anyone has a concern regarding a sex offender or information they can provide, they may contact the Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registration and Enforcement (SORE) Unit at 816-881-3849 or by e-mailing SORE@jacksongov.org.
