FREE Tax Preparation Assistance for Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
City of Lee’s Summit residents that are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) can receive free tax preparation services beginning January 26, 2010. EITC is a refundable federal income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families.
The FREE tax preparation services will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday's, beginning January 26 to March 23, at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St.
While many individual citizens are eligible for this credit, the EITC benefits increase with the number of qualifying children and credit expenditures are weighted more to larger families. This provides greater benefits to low and moderate-income families than more traditional government benefit programs, such as cash welfare or food stamps. The City of Lee’s Summit in partnership with the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Greater Kansas City will host the program.
