Garage fire heavily damages a Lee's Summit Townhome
October 27, 2012
By Assistant Chief Jim Eden Lee’s Summit Fire Department
On Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 5:14 p.m. the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 Block of NE Churchill Street.
A neighbor reported smoke and fire coming from the garage of a four-plex.
When the fire department arrived, smoke and fire was coming from the garage of 119 NE Churchill St, a two-story, four-unit, townhome. The occupants of the neighboring units were being evacuated.
Firefighters initially knocked down the fire in the heavily involved garage, and the vehicle parked in front of it. The fire had spread into the attic above the garage and into a storage area.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire in those areas before it could spread any further. A search of the entire structure confirmed that all of the occupants were out of the building. The fire was under control by 5:48 p.m.
The fire caused extensive damage to the garage of 119 NE Churchill St. with varying amounts of smoke and heat damage to the living area and the attic space above the neighboring unit’s garage.
Two of the four units were able to be reoccupied.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
