October 28 2013
Gov. Jay Nixon tonight issued the following statement on the passing of former Congressman Ike Skelton:
“A role model to whom I had the honor of presenting Missouri’s highest military honor, the Conspicuous Service Medal, Ike Skelton inspired us all with his quiet dignity and tireless commitment to America’s men and women in uniform,” Gov. Nixon said.
“A friend to Missourians, Americans and liberty-loving people worldwide, Congressman Skelton embodied the true meaning of public service and will forever be remembered as a leader who left a legacy of greater prosperity and security for his district, our state and our nation.”

Missouri and the nation lost a dedicated statesman; a phenomenal representative and supporter not only of his district, but the military and United States; and a man of belief, integrity, and 34 years of service in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was a people person who cared about all of his constituents and what was important to them. God bless your soul and your family.
