Grain Valley City Offices and Community Center Closing Feb. 26 due to severe winter weather warning

February 25, 2013

By Alexa Barton,
City Administrator

For the safety of City employees, all non-essential staff will not report to work tomorrow and Grain Valley City Hall and the Grain Valley Community Center will be closed to the public, this includes cancellation of all recreation programs for February 26, 2013.

In addition, the Board of Aldermen meeting scheduled for February 26, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. is cancelled and rescheduled for Wednesday evening; February 27, 2013; 7:00 p.m. Public Works and Public Safety staff will continue to perform normal operations.

City Hall and the Community Center will reopen Wednesday, February 27 at 8:00 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued another major winter storm warning for the Kansas City region. The storm system is expected to bring an additional 10-14” of snow along with strong winds – beginning late Monday and continue throughout Tuesday into Wednesday. This snow storm, “Winter Storm Rocky”, on top of measurable snow already received from “Winter Storm Q”, will make for extremely dangerous conditions.

Due to this warning, the City of Grain Valley urges residents to avoid unnecessary travel tomorrow and move vehicles off all streets for the duration of the storm. Vehicles parked on streets impede plowing efforts and can slow emergency response vehicles.

Public Works crews are prepared in anticipation for tonight and tomorrow’s storms where crews will be working in 12-hour shifts until the storm subsides and streets are clear.
