Grain Valley City Offices and Community Center Closing tomorrow due to severe winter weather warning

February 20, 2013

For the safety of City employees, all non-essential staff will not report to work tomorrow and Grain Valley City Hall and the Grain Valley Community Center will be closed to the public, this includes cancellation of all recreation programs for February 21, 2013.

Public Works and Public Safety staff will continue to perform normal operations.  City Hall and the Community Center will reopen Friday, February 22 at 8:00 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued a major winter storm warning for the Kansas City region. The storm system is expected to bring 6-10” of snow along with strong winds beginning early Thursday morning and continue throughout the day.

Due to this warning, the City of Grain Valley urges residents to avoid unnecessary travel tomorrow and move vehicles off all streets for the duration of the storm. Vehicles parked on streets impede plowing efforts and can slow emergency response vehicles.

Public Works crews are prepared in anticipation for tonight and tomorrow’s storms where crews will be working in 12-hour shifts until the storm subsides and streets are clear.
