Greenwood Quarry Holding an Open House on Saturday

October 23, 2012

Event includes equipment display, hot dog cookout and Chiefs tickets giveaway

The Greenwood Quarry welcomes the public to an Open House Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“The Greenwood Quarry is an important part of the economy of the area and the region, creating jobs to produce critical construction materials for roads, bridges and major infrastructure projects,” said Chris Bollinger, who was recently named Plant Manager of the Greenwood Quarry, operated by Martin Marietta Materials Inc. “We welcome visitors so we can show the work we do and the equipment we use.”

The quarry open house includes a display about explosives used in rock mining, a display of seismograph equipment and hands-on access to huge, quarry-sized trucks, loaders and other equipment.

Beginning at 11 a.m., Martin Marietta also will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts, chips, cookies, drinks and – in keeping with the season – trick-or-treat candy, Bollinger said. For kids, there will be a bounce house and face painting.

Martin Marietta also plans several giveaways to Open House visitors, including four tickets and a parking pass to the Chiefs-Raiders game on Sunday, Oct. 28.

The Greenwood Quarry is located at 15719 S. Airport Road, Greenwood, Mo. For directions or further information, call (816) 537-6733.
