The annual Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity Concert will be held at Beacon Heights Community of Christ Church, 19402 Holke Road, Independence, MO, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27.
The free-will offering concert has actually been hosted by St. Michael's Episcopal Church (also located in Independence, at 4000 Lee's Summit Road) since the mid-1990's, but has been so successful that it had to be moved to the Beacon Heights church four years ago.
The concert, always held on the Sunday prior to "Super Bowl Sunday", raises an average of $2,000 each year for Habitat. It is one of the largest annual single-evening fundraisers for Truman Heritage Habitat, which serves eastern Jackson County. Several area church choirs participate. A flute trio will be return this year, in addition to several vocal choirs. The program lasts until approximately 8:30, and is followed by a reception with cookies and punch. Child care will be provided during the concert, making the music more enjoyable for adults.
There are several openings for eastern Jackson County churches to perform. Churches wanting to participate in this year's event should call St. Michael's Episcopal Church at 816-373-5333.
