Your Tips for healthy eating during the holidays
Nov. 5, 2011
Hailey Cunningham
During the holidays we get to partake in all the wonderful perks of the season – including treats.
Did you know that 54.9 percent of American adults are obese? Most gain at least a pound and a half between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and many never lose it. Don’t let this holiday season take you further away from your goal of slimming down!
Here are some easy tips:
GREENS FIRST: When strolling through the food lines at parties, hit the greens first and fill your plate with a huge salad and veggies! Allow yourself small portions of other items.
EASY ON THE BOOZE: Alcoholic beverages are full of empty calories, but if you must partake, try a gin and diet tonic (64 calories) or a Budweiser Select (55 calories).
BUDDY SYSTEM: Pick a friend or family member to help support you! Maybe a pact: whoever loses the most weight between now and New Year’s gets treated to a movie or a day at the spa!
GET MOVING: Dust off the treadmill or elliptical and get your body moving. Burning calories and releasing toxins will make you feel less sluggish and lethargic. Remember, always talk to your doctor before beginning any exercise regiment.
Changing your habits is probably the hardest thing you’ll ever do, but once it’s done, it gets easier! At Get in Shape for Women, we get you through the grueling beginning of the rest of your life. So come in today!
Hailey Cunningham is manager of Get in Shape for Women, 407 S.W. Ward Road in Lees Summit.
