Hope House Is Awarded Allstate Grant

June 23, 2012

Hope House was awarded a $15,000.00 grant from the Allstate Foundation which will support Transitional Housing Advocates.

Hope House intends through this award to expand and enhance its current self-sufficiency efforts for domestic violence survivors who are no longer in crisis; the target population includes transitional housing participants, non-residential clients, and shelter clients who have resided in shelter for at least 60 days.  Grant funds will be used to increase the number of times the Allstate Moving Ahead Through Financial Management curriculum is offered and the number of clients reached.

To further meet survivors’ needs, Transitional Housing Program Advocates will be available to meet individually with survivors immediately following each group session or at another mutually agreeable time.  During individual sessions, Advocates will further delve into relevant topics with survivors and assist them in taking action toward economic independence.  For example, Advocates may help survivors to create a realistic budget, open a bank account, or write a letter disputing an item on their credit report, among other tasks.  Hope House anticipates a total of 100 survivors will access the Transitional Housing Financial Empowerment Program.

Hope House services form a safety net of prevention, education and support for more than 10,000 survivors of abuse every year. Residential and outreach services are provided through two secure locations in Independence and Lee’s Summit, MO. The 24-hour hotline for crisis intervention can be reached at 816-461-HOPE (4673) or 816-HOTLINE (468-5463) or visit www.hopehouse.net.
