Improvements Approved At Colbern Town Centre

August 9, 2014

The city council voted unanimously to award a construction bid to Gunter Construction Company for road improvements at Colbern Road and Town Centre Boulevard. At their August 7 session Dena Mezger, interim director of public works, described the intended signal at the intersection, which is designed to improve safety. In addition, lanes will be widened and a median installed to prevent southbound traffic on Independence from turning left on Colbern. Due to the proximity of Independence to the interchange at Interstate 470, and the slope of Colbern, the area has long been deemed in need of safety improvements.

Though such projects are typically considered by the public works committee before it goes to the full city council, Mezger explained that the department was bringing it directly to the council in hopes of expediting the process. In addition to safety concerns and already scheduled improvements at the nearby Adams Toyota dealership, the area may see some additional development that would benefit by these road improvements. Mezger noted that this project has been a long time coming, having been considered for over a decade now. The total cost is estimated to be $972,758.75.
